Create unlimited content ideas for digital marketing with ease.
“There is only so much content you can create.” Sounds familiar? We have all been there – running out of ideas, having a content block, and wondering what to post next.
But the good news is, you don’t have to stay stuck. I have this 2-step framework to help you brainstorm endless content ideas for digital marketing – no matter what business you are in.
The 2-Step Framework
Here’s the plan:
Step 1: Familiarise yourself with the Value Pillar
Step 2: Decide your Content Pillars
Feel free to change or tweak things along the way—you don’t have to get everything perfect from the start. Just keep a few key points in mind:
- Is this something your audience will find valuable or enjoy?
- Is it relevant to your business or brand?
- Are you comfortable creating this type of content? If it’s something you dislike or would rather avoid, don’t force it!
With that in mind, let’s dive deeper into each step.
Value Pillars
The first step is to decide what kind of value you want to offer your audience. Your content should either educate, entertain, inspire, or connect with your audience. I call these the Value Pillars. Think of them as the “why” behind the content you create.
Here are some examples of value pillars:
01 Educational
- How to _____
- Step-by-step guide
- Case Studies
- Tips and Tricks
- Q&A sessions
02 Relatable
- Behind-the-scenes content
- Day in the life
- Photo Dumps
03 Inspirational
- Before vs after
- Success stories
- Personal wins
- Celebrating milestones
04 Entertaining
- Skits
- Memes
- Bloopers or funny mistakes
Remember, you don’t need to stick to just one value pillar—mix it up! But make sure every piece of content serves a purpose and is something you enjoy creating.
Content Pillars
Now that you have chosen the type of value you want to offer, it is time to figure out what topics your brand will focus on. I call these your Content Pillars. They are basically the themes or niches you talk about.
To give you an idea, here are some examples based on different types of businesses:
01. Baker
You can either break your content down by product type (like cupcakes, breads, desserts, or cakes) or by topics your audience will love, such as recipes, baking techniques, food photography, or ingredients.
02. Photographer
The same logic applies here. You could focus on content like photography techniques, editing tips, equipment guides, or location scouting. You can also create content that caters to fellow photographers, such as building portfolios or sharing networking opportunities.
03. Clay Artist
For clay artists, content pillars might include tools and equipment, techniques, clay project ideas, or videos showing the creative process from start to finish.
Bringing It All Together
Now, here’s the fun part: Combine your Value Pillars with your Content Pillars!
Let’s say you are a baker. If one of your value pillars is educational, you could create a step-by-step guide on how to bake the perfect sourdough loaf. Or, if you want to go for relatable content, you could post a behind-the-scenes look at your messy kitchen after a long day of baking.
By combining these pillars, you will instantly unlock 16 different directions for your content ideas.
Let’s say you are a photographer, and your content pillars are:
- Photography Techniques
- Editing Tips
- Equipment Guides
- Location Scouting
You can now pair each content pillar with a value pillar:
- Educational + Photography Techniques
- Relatable + Photography Techniques
- Inspirational + Photography Techniques
- Entertaining + Photography Techniques
The same applies to the other content pillars:
- Educational + Editing Tips
- Relatable + Editing Tips
- Inspirational + Editing Tips
- Entertaining + Editing Tips
You may get something like this:
Value Pillar | Photography Techniques | Editing Tips | Equipment Guides | Location Scouting |
Educational | Tips for mastering lighting | How to retouch portraits | Camera buying guide | Best spots for sunrise shoots |
Relatable | Behind the scenes of a shoot | Sharing personal editing challenges | Funny camera mishaps | Struggles with location permits |
Inspirational | My first vs current photos | Before vs After editing | How I built my camera kit | Finding magic in unexpected places |
Entertaining | Photography memes | Editing Bloopers | Equipment unboxing skit | Location-scouting adventures go wrong |
When you follow this approach, you will have 16 content ideas ready to go: 4 value pillars multiplied by 4 content pillars.
This is a simple way to make sure your content stays fresh and engaging, without overwhelming yourself trying to come up with new ideas every day.
Go ahead, give it a try!
