Are blogging courses worth it? Here’s what you need to know before you invest.

Are blogging courses worth it

Starting a blog can feel overwhelming—there is so much to learn about strategies, tools, SEO, monetisation, and platforms. With so many free resources available online, you might wonder, “Can a blogging course really help?”

As someone who has invested in a blogging course for beginners, I will break down the pros and cons of blogging courses, share my own experience, and help you decide if taking one is the right move for you.

What Do Blogging Courses Cover?

Blogging courses are designed to guide you step-by-step through the process of building and growing a successful blog. Most courses cover topics like:

  • Blog setup: Choosing a platform, setting up hosting, and designing your blog. These are essentials in any successful blogging course, especially for beginners.
  • Content creation: Writing posts that engage your audience and keep them coming back. The best blogging courses online offer in-depth guides to crafting captivating content.
  • SEO: Ranking your blog on Google to drive organic traffic. A good blogging for money course will emphasize this as a key skill.
  • Monetisation: Turning your blog into a source of income through ads, affiliate marketing, and digital products. If you want to learn blogging for money effectively, a structured course can fast-track your results.
  • Marketing: Building your audience via email lists, social media, and collaborations.

A good blogging course not only teaches you the technical skills but also provides the strategies needed to grow a blog sustainably. For example,

  • A clear roadmap of a typical bloggers journey and what they focus on at each stage
  • Expert insights where you can learn from people who have already achieved what you are aiming for
  • Many courses include communities or mentors to keep you motivated and accountable.

If you are searching for blogging courses for beginners, these elements are crucial to ensuring your success.

My Personal Experience with a Blogging Course

When I first started blogging, I only invested in a low-ticket item that cost me SGD 11.80 and it helped jumpstart my journey. However, after 4 months of trying things out on my own, I soon realised that my method was not working and I needed something that actually provides results. That’s when I started contemplating whether to enroll in By Sophia Lee’s Blogging course, which is the best beginner blog course I have found. I decided to take the leap, and it was the best decision ever.

Taking Sophia’s course opened my eyes to how to actually write blogs so they rank on Google, what kind of blog content to write about so that people actually want to read, and even blog formats so they are SEO-strong. Initially, I thought it would involve some complex mechanism, but no—Sophia made it so easy. I immediately revamped all my existing blog posts to follow what I had learned. After just one month of implementation, I got monetized for Google AdSense, and it was only upwards from there.

If you are considering taking a blogging course, I highly recommend By Sophia Lee’s Beginner’s Blogging Bundle. This is the one I personally took. Not only will you learn blogging itself, but also how to drive traffic from Pinterest, making it the best Pinterest course for bloggers in my opinion. I love how she taught and went through all the materials. If I could rewind time, I wouldn’t have wasted those 4 months—I would have enrolled in the course right when I first started to save time, energy, and money.

Pros and Cons of Taking a Blogging Course

That being said, a blogging course worked for me, but me talking about all its benefits wouldn’t be realistic without acknowledging the drawbacks. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons.

Pros

  • Saves time: Instead of spending months trying to figure it all out yourself, you get a ready-made roadmap. I literally could have saved four months of time. Don’t wait too long like I did.
  • Expert guidance: Learn from someone who has already succeeded. For instance, I intentionally chose Sophia because I had been following her on YouTube for quite some time and knew the results she had achieved.
  • Community: Many courses include access to private groups where you can ask questions and get support. For the course I took, I have a Facebook group where I can ask questions, connect with fellow bloggers, and even share wins to keep each other motivated.

Cons

  • Cost: Quality courses can be pricey, which might be a barrier for some beginners. For the blogging bundle course I took, I invested SGD 595.76. In my opinion, this is a pretty decent price range considering all the value I have gotten. And if you think of it long-term, once you are monetised, you can get back the ROI fast. So if cost isn’t an issue for you, just invest in a course to save yourself time.
  • Commitment: You will need to dedicate time to learn and implement the material. You can learn all the things in the world, but if you do not have the discipline to execute what you have absorbed, you won’t get results. Period.
  • Quality: Not all courses are created equal—it is essential to do your research before enrolling. I have consolidated some questions in the next section that you may want to consider before investing in one.

Key Questions to Ask Before Investing in a Blogging Course

To determine if a blogging course is right for you, ask yourself:

  • What are my blogging goals? Am I doing this as a hobby, or do I want to turn it into a full-time income? If it is a hobby, you don’t really need a course. But if you want to make money, I recommend investing in one.
  • Am I ready to put in the work? A course won’t magically grow your blog unless you take action.
  • Is the instructor credible? Do they have a proven track record of success? Check their blog, Pinterest, social media, and check for yourself if their results are legit. Stalk them.
  • Are there student success stories? Look for testimonials and reviews to gauge the course’s impact.

Alternatives to Blogging Courses

If you are not ready to invest in a course, there are other ways to learn:

  • Free resources: Blogs, YouTube channels, and podcasts can provide valuable tips. Linking Sophia’s YouTube channel for you—this is where I started.
  • Low-ticket resources: These can be a low-cost way to test the waters. And this is the beginner’s guide from Sophia that got me started.
  • Experimentation: Start blogging, track your progress, and learn through trial and error.

While these options are helpful, keep in mind that they might take longer and lack the structure of a well-designed course. The best blogging courses online offer a clear pathway to results, unlike piecing together free information.

How to Maximise the ROI on a Blogging Course

To get the most out of a blogging course:

  • Choose wisely: Pick a course with strong reviews and an instructor with a proven track record you want to learn from.
  • Take action: Take notes and implement the lessons as you go.
  • Engage with the community: Ask questions, share progress, and network with other students.

Is a Blogging Course Right for You?

A blogging course is a great option if:

  • You want a clear, actionable plan to grow your blog.
  • You are serious about turning your blog into a source of income.
  • You value expert guidance and community support.

However, if you are not ready to commit time and effort, or if you are unsure about investing financially, you might want to start with free resources and revisit the idea later.

Are Blogging Courses Worth It?

For me, the answer is a resounding YES. By investing in a course like By Sophia Lee’s, I was able to avoid common pitfalls, save time, and see tangible results. If you are ready to take your blogging journey to the next level, I encourage you to explore the course and see how it can help you achieve your goals.
