As a crochet lover, I wished for a post like this when it comes to practicing crochet. Mini crochet projects for beginners are perfect as gifts. I find smaller crochet projects cuter and allow me more avenues to customize as I learn the ropes. I have collated 10 of my favorite mini crochet projects that you can start doing today. They are completely beginner-friendly and can be completed in one sitting.

This post contains 10 fun & easy mini crochet projects for beginners.

Abbreviations Used

I will use the abbreviations in the table below to describe the crochet patterns.

  • Safety Eyes
  • Stuffings
  • Glue Gun
  • Keychain Ring

Let’s dive into the 10 mini crochet projects for beginners.

#1 Baby Octopus

1: MR, 6 SC

2: 6 V

3: [1 SC, 1 V] x6

4: 18 SC

5: 18 SC

6: 18 SC

7: [1 SC, 1 A] x6

Place the safety eyes between row 5 and 6 and 3 stitches apart

8: [1 SC, 1 A] x4

9: TFL only 

[ [1 SL ST, 6 CH, start in 2nd CH from the hook, 2 SC in each stitch] x8, SL ST in 1st Tentacles] x8

Cut yarn, leave around a 6 inch yarn tail and pull out.

Stuff the Octopus.

Close the opening using back loops of row 9.


#2 Whale

1: MR, 6 SC

2: 6 V

3: [1 SC, 1 A] x6

4: [2 SC, 1 A] x6

5: [3 SC, 1 A] x6

9 to 16: 48 SC

Change to white yarn

17: 48 SC

18: TBL only [6 SC, 1 decrease] x6

19: [5 SC, 1 A] x6

20: [4 SC, 1 A] x6

21: [3 SC, 1 A] x6

Fins x2

1: MR, 6 SC

2: [1 SC, 1 V] x3

3: 9 SC

4: [1 SC, 1 A] x3

Cut out the yarn and leave a long tail for sewing.

Tail x2

1: MR, SC x2

2: 6 V

3: 12 SC

4: [ 2 SC, 1 A] x3

5: 9 SC

6: [1 SC, 1 A] x3

Cut out the yarn and leave a long tail for sewing

Sew tails vertically at where the colour changes (ie row 16).

Find the front of the face, mark the center point and add the eyes with 16 stitches apart.

Add blush behind eyes, sew fins 2 stitches behind blush.


#3 Sunflower Keychain

2: TBL only 6 V

3: TBL only [1 SC, 1 A] x6

4: TBL only [1 SC, 1 A, 1 SC] x6

5: TBL only [3 SC, 1 A] x6

6: TBL only [2 SC, 1 A, 2 SC] x6

For row 1 to 4, SL ST, 3 CH, SL ST into 3rd chain, skip 1st chain, SL ST into the next

Petals

2 CH, [DC, TR, TR TR], 2 CH, SL ST, [TR TR, TR, DC], 2 CH, SL ST

Leaf

11 CH

Skip 1 Chain

1 SC, 1 HDC, 6 DC, 1 HDC, 3 SC, 1 HDC, 6 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC, 1 SL ST

1 CH, 10 SC, [1 SC, 2 CH, 1 SL ST, 1 SC], 10 SC




#4 Star

{

1: MR, 5SC

2: 5 V

3: [1 SC, 1 V] x5

4: [2 SC, 1 V] x5

5: These are the points of the star, starting with the same stitch from the previous round.

[1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC]

Repeat the below for 4 times

SL ST in the next 3 stitches, [1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC]

Leave the long yarn for sewing the parts together.

Put the safety eyes, blush and smiley face

Assemble the pieces and sew back loops only

Don’t cut the yarn and do as many chains as you desire for the handle. 

Once you have chained till the desired length, sew them onto the pouch and then back to the leaf. 

Cut the remaining yarn and hide it.
