Looking to increase traffic to your Etsy shop? Try these 7 proven methods!

increase traffic to etsy shop

You have set up your shop, listed your products, and waited… but the traffic just isn’t coming. I can relate—I have been there! As an Etsy seller running two shops, I know exactly how it feels.

If you are wondering how to get more traffic on Etsy and attract the right customers, you are in the right place.

In this post, I will be sharing 7 simple ways to increase Etsy traffic. These are all methods I have personally tested!

1: Etsy SEO

First up, search engine optimisation (SEO). Before we even talk about off-Etsy strategies, you need to make sure your shop is set up for success on Etsy itself.

Etsy has its own search engine, and if people are searching for products like yours, you want to be found. That means every single one of your listings needs to be keyword-rich.

If you are unsure how to do that, I have written a super detailed guide on how to do keyword research for Etsy—good news, you don’t need any paid tools to do it!

2: Etsy Paid Ads

Next, let’s talk about Etsy paid ads. To be honest, Etsy ads haven’t worked well for either of my shops, but that doesn’t mean they won’t work for you!

Here’s why I think Etsy ads didn’t work for me: Etsy ads only show your products to people already shopping on Etsy. If your niche is small or your listings are already ranking well, ads might not make much of a difference. After running the numbers, I found that my shop performed worse or stayed the same with ads, so I focused on SEO instead.

That said, Etsy ads can be useful if:

  • You are new and still working on SEO
  • Your niche is super competitive, and your products don’t appear in the first few pages of search results

If you want to give it a go, try running ads for just $1 per day and see how it works for your shop!

3: Blog

This has been a game-changer for driving traffic to my Etsy shop! Blogging helps bring in customers with high intent to buy and boosts conversion rates.

I create blog posts like gift guides (e.g. “Budget-friendly Gifts for [your ideal customer]”) and include my Etsy products as recommendations. People are always searching for gift ideas, so this brings consistent traffic to both my blog and my Etsy shop.

If you already have a blog, this is a great shortcut to getting more Etsy traffic. If not, skip this. If you are considering starting one, I highly recommend this beginner’s guide I used when I started blogging in 2023.

4: Pinterest

Pinterest is one of my favourite ways to drive traffic to my Etsy shop—mainly because it’s free and works so well!

Pinterest is also how I drive traffic to my blog, creating two powerful funnels:

  • Pinterest → Blog → Etsy (for those with a blog)
  • Pinterest → Etsy (if you don’t have a blog)

If you have a URL, you can create pins and direct traffic straight to your Etsy shop. But heads up—Pinterest is a long-term strategy, just like Google. You need to trust the process, get good at designing pins, and find what works for your shop. Success won’t happen overnight, but once you crack the code, Pinterest becomes a massive Etsy traffic booster!

5: Facebook Ads

Another way to bring traffic to your Etsy shop is running Facebook ads. Quick fact: Facebook ads don’t just run on Facebook—they also show up on Instagram!

If you are considering ads, I would recommend Facebook ads over Etsy ads, and here’s why:

  • Bigger audience – Etsy ads only reach people already shopping on Etsy, but Facebook ads help you find new customers outside of Etsy.
  • Find your ideal customer – Your dream customer might not even be shopping on Etsy! Facebook ads let you expand your reach.
  • More control – You can set detailed audience targeting, which isn’t an option with Etsy ads.

Sometimes, the issue isn’t that your product isn’t good—it just isn’t being seen by the right people!

6: YouTube Channel

Consider starting a YouTube channel to document your Etsy journey or build your personal brand. People buy from people, and connecting with your audience through video can attract more traffic to your shop.

I love YouTube because it is more than just a social platform—it is also a search engine, and it can be monetised once you meet the requirements. Imagine this:

  • You post videos about your Etsy journey
  • You build an audience
  • More people discover your shop
  • Your YouTube channel grows, and so does your Etsy traffic!

It is like hitting two birds with one stone!

7: Social Media

Lastly, leveraging social media is a great way to increase traffic to your Etsy shop. Big Etsy sellers often use platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

If you are new to social media and unsure where to start, consider your business ecosystem and think about where your ideal customers are hanging out. Still unsure? Check out your competitors and see which platforms they use. This can give you a solid idea of where to focus your efforts.

You might wonder, “Do I need to be on all social media platforms?” My answer: it depends on you. Personally, I stick with two main platforms to avoid burnout. I love Pinterest and YouTube, so I spend the most time there. Plus, I am in it for the long-term, and content on Pinterest and YouTube tends to have a longer lifespan.

That said, I also created an Instagram for my Etsy shop. I wanted to secure the name, and I find Instagram offers better community features than TikTok.
