5 Ways to make extra money while at work.
We all love a little extra income, right? Whether it is to pay off debt, build your dream business, save for a dream holiday, or just have more breathing room, making money while working a 9 to 5 can feel like a game-changer. The best part? You don’t need to quit your job to make it happen!
In this post, I will walk you through 5 ways to make extra money online and offline, even if you lead a busy life.
1: Investments
When I say investments, I’m talking about stocks, ETFs, bonds, crypto, and NFTs. These are ways you can put your money to work with minimal effort. Once invested, you can let the money roll in—though research is crucial to make informed decisions and reduce risks.
This is one of the most low-effort ways to generate income.
2: Digital Product-Based Passive Income
Selling digital products is a fantastic way to earn passive income. You can create and sell anything—from ebooks, online courses, and templates to GoodNotes files and more. Although these products take upfront effort to create, they require little maintenance afterward and can be sold repeatedly.
Depending on which platform you use, it will require different efforts. For instance,
- Etsy or Raketph: You can tap into their existing customer base and platform features to create brand awareness and drive traffic, making these beginner-friendly options.
- Stan Store, Teachable, ThriveCart, or Beacons.ai: You will need to drive traffic yourself, so learning marketing and SEO is essential.

3: Content Creation
This is a popular option. Whether it is YouTube, a blog, or a podcast, content creation allows you to express yourself and earn through ads, sponsorships, and affiliate marketing.
If you think starting a YouTube channel sounds impossible, here are people doing it while working full-time: CC Melody and Lillian Chiu. Reaching YouTube’s monetization threshold might take time, but once you do, the rewards are worth it.
If you are camera-shy, blogging is an excellent alternative. I started my blog and monetized it within a month—so if I can do it, you can too.
4: Sell your old stuff
Take a look around your room. Do you have clothes, games, gadgets, or toys collecting dust? Selling these items on eBay, Carousell, or Facebook Marketplace is a quick way to earn extra cash.
All you need is your phone to snap a few pictures, upload them, and you are good to go! This is probably one of the easiest ways to make money with minimal effort.
5: Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is simple: You earn commissions when people buy through your link. Many companies offer affiliate programs, such as Amazon Associates.
This strategy works best if you have an existing audience—or know how to attract one using SEO and social media. Building a big enough following takes time, so set realistic expectations. You will require a big enough pool to earn significantly from affiliate links.
How to get started while working full time
Balancing extra income with a full-time job requires planning, but it’s doable! Here are some tips to help you get started:
01 Start Small
Focus on one idea at a time before expanding to other ventures. It is better to get one thing right than to juggle too many tasks at once.
02 Manage Your Time Effectively
Whether you want extra income or a side hustle to build your dream, time management is key. Work out what fits your routine:
- If working on the weekends works for you, do that.
- If working 1 hour every weeknight after work works for you, do that.
You will need to manage your time such that it will not affect your performance in your full-time job.
03 Batch Your Work
Trust me—batching tasks saves loads of time. Batching means doing similar tasks in one go. For example:
- Film all your content in one day.
- Edit multiple videos in another session.
- Write all your captions or emails for the month in one sitting.
This approach helps you stay efficient without switching between different tasks.
04 Automate When Possible
Automation will be your best friend! It might involve a small cost, but it will save you hours. Here are some ways you can automate your workflow:
- Use scheduling tools for social media posts.
- Set up email sequences to engage your audience.
- If you run an online store, explore ways to automate order fulfillment.
05 Outsource Tasks
Running a side hustle while working full-time can get overwhelming. That’s where outsourcing helps. Platforms like Fiverr and Upwork make it easy to find freelancers who can take on some of your workload.
Remember, building a business is a marathon, not a sprint. Protect your mental health and don’t hesitate to delegate when needed.
Managing Expectations
Starting a new venture is exciting, but managing expectations is essential to stay motivated. Here’s what you need to know:
- Don’t expect quick wins.- Reaching your first 1K in sales takes time—especially if you have no prior experience or a small customer base.
- Accept the learning curve. – You’ll need to learn new skills, but there are many low-cost or free resources available to help you.
- Messy action beats perfection.- Even experienced entrepreneurs don’t know everything. It’s okay to learn as you go!
- Failure is part of the process. – Every failure teaches you something valuable. Experiment with new ideas, and don’t expect every product to be a bestseller or every video to go viral.
Making extra money while working full-time isn’t about overnight success—it’s about steady progress. Whether you try investing, selling digital products, or creating content, the most important thing is to take action.
Start small, stay consistent, and most importantly—enjoy the process.
