Step by Step Instructions
I will be dividing this project into three parts: the hat, the ear flaps, and the bear ears.
Step 1: Hat
We will start by crocheting the main base of the earflap hat, which will wrap around the head of your doll or plushie.

1: MR, 12 DC, SL ST
2: 2 CH, 12 FV, SL ST
3: 2 CH, 12 (DC, FV), SL ST
4: 2 CH, 12 (DC, FV, DC), SL ST
5: 2 CH, 12 (3 DC, FV), SL ST
6: 2 CH, 60 DC, SL ST
Now, let’s create the part that covers the forehead.

7: 2 CH, 46 DC, 14 K
8 to 9: 2 CH, flip, 46 DC
Step 2: Ear Flap
Next up, without cutting the yarn, we will move straight into making the ear flaps.

Left Side:
- Chain 34
- Go back 4 chains, do 4 HDC puff stitches
- SL ST
- Cut the yarn and hide the tail

Right Side:
- Chain 4
- Go back 4 chains and do 4 HDC puff stitches
- Chain 30
- Attach to the hat with a SL ST
This is how your earflap hat will look like:

Step 3: Crochet the Bear Ears
To make this look extra cute, we are going to crochet the bear ears directly onto the hat.

- Count 14 chains from each end of the hat
- In that spot:
- Round 1: 6 DC
- Round 2: CH, 6 V, SL ST into the hat
Then, use the yarn tail to sew down the ear securely. Once done, hide any loose ends on the inside of the hat.
Repeat on the other side to complete your crochet ear flap hat.

And there you have it, a full crochet mini earflap bear hat that’s as fun to make as it is to show off. This sweet little accessory makes a perfect gift, prop, or add-on to your doll hat crochet collection.
