Step-by-Step Instructions
To make this cute fish crochet pattern, I will be dividing the tutorial into 5 sections:
- Body
- Tail
- Top Fin
- Bottom Fin
- Side Fins
1: Body
Let’s start with the body first.

1: MR, 6 SC, SL ST
2: CH, 6 V, SL ST
3: CH, 6 (SC, V), SL ST
4: CH, 18 SC, SL ST
5: CH, 6 (2 SC, V), SL ST
6 to 9: CH, 24 SC, SL ST
10: CH, 6 (2 SC, A), SL ST
Next, add in the safety eyes and squeaky toy.

For the eyes, place them between rows 3 and 4 of the body, and make sure that they are placed symmetrically.

For the squeaky toy, insert it with the pointy part going in first.

Continue working:
11: CH, 18 SC, SL ST
12: CH, 6 (SC, A), SL ST
13: CH, 4 (SC, A), SL ST
Add a little more stuffing if needed to give the fish its shape. I didn’t add any for mine because the squeaky toy fits right in.
To close off the fish, pinch the end and hook through both sides (as shown in the picture).
14: CH, 4 SC, SL ST
No need to cut off the yarn yet. We will continue straight into the next section to crochet the tail.
2: Tail
Continuing from the previous section, let’s work on the tail.

2 CH, flip, 4 FV, 3 CH, SL ST.
No need to cut off the yarn.
3: Top Fin
Now, moving upwards, let’s crochet the top fin.

2 SL ST, V, TV, 3 FV, TV, V, SL ST
Cut the yarn and hide the ends neatly.
4: Bottom Fin
Next, we will work on the bottom fin. Count around rows 7 to 8 on the body and start attaching the yarn from there.

CH, V, TV, V, SL ST
Cut the yarn and hide the ends.
5: Side Fin
Finally, let’s add the side fins. You will need to crochet both sides.

Count around row 6 of the body and start from there. Make sure to check the direction so the stitches face up.
3 CH, (3 DC), 3 CH, SL ST
Cut the yarn and hide the ends.
And that’s it, your little crochet fish is ready to explore the ocean!
This fish crochet pattern is a great project if you are looking for a quick, handmade gift or keychain idea. Plus, the squeaky toy inside makes it even more fun.
You can also add a little keychain for a finishing touch. Hang it on your bag as a charm, or even use it as a stress-relieving toy when you need a quick squeeze. 🎣✨
