    Step-by-Step Instructions

Now, let’s go through how to crochet a butterfly step by step. I will divide this simple crochet butterfly pattern into 3 sections:

    1. The Butterfly
    2. The Feelers
    3. Putting It Together

    1: The Butterfly

To start, the butterfly is basically a flower coaster with 8 petals folded in half. If you are familiar with circular patterns, this will be a piece of cake. Below is an image of the crochet diagram of the butterfly before folding:

3: CH, SC, 7 [(7 DC), SC], (7 DC), SL ST

4: CH, 64 SC, SL ST

For a fun twist, I use one color for each row to create a gradient effect and make many crochet mini butterflies.

    2: The Feelers

Next, let’s make the feelers. This step is very simple, you only need to chain stitches. I made 36 chains for mine.

You can easily adjust the length by adding or reducing the number of chains.

For the feelers, I like to use the third color from the butterfly body, but feel free to choose any color you like. This small detail can really personalize your crochet butterfly keychain pattern if you decide to turn it into one.

    3: Putting It Together

    Finally, let’s assemble everything.

First, fold the butterfly in half. To secure it, I use a hot glue gun to stick it together. Make sure you do not fill in the holes, and avoid gluing all the way to the edges so you get a cleaner finish.

This is how it looks from the side after gluing:

Next, wrap the feelers around the center of the body. Then tie a double knot at the top so the feelers stick out nicely.

And that’s it! You now have your very own crochet mini butterfly free pattern creation!
