Step-by-Step Instructions
I will be dividing this crochet tomato pattern into 4 sections:
- Tomato
- Tomato Leaves
- Tomato Stem
- Putting It Together
1: Tomato
First, let us crochet the tomato. It is simply a gigantic ball in red.

1: MR, 6 SC, SL ST
2: CH, 6V, SL ST
3: CH, 6 (SC, V), SL ST
4: CH, 6 (SC, V, SC), SL ST
5: CH, 6 (3 SC, V), SL ST
6: CH, 6 (2 SC, V, 2 SC), SL ST
7: CH, 6 (5 SC, V), SL ST
8 to 11: CH, 42 SC, SL ST
12: CH, 6 (5 SC, A), SL ST
13: CH, 6 (2 SC, A, 2 SC), SL ST
14: CH, 6 (3 SC, A), SL ST
15: CH, 6 (SC, A, SC), SL ST
Add stuffing
16: CH, 6 (SC, A), SL ST
17: CH, 6 A, SL ST
Add more stuffing before closing.
Leave a long tail to sew it close.
2: Tomato Leaves
Next up, the leaf. This part is where your tomato really starts to come to life!

1: MR, 10 SC, SL ST
2: 5 (SL ST, 6 CH, go back 2 chains, SL ST, SC, HDC, 2 DC, K)
Leave a long tail to sew.
3: Tomato Stem
Then, it is time to make the stalk. I made it quite tiny, but you can always adjust the height to your liking.

3 CH, go back 2 chains, SC, (SC, SL ST)
Leave a long tail for attaching.
4: Putting It Together
Now that all the pieces are ready, let us stitch them together in 2 steps.
Step 1: Attach the Stalk with the Leaf

Simply hook out the long tail through the middle of the leaf and do a dead knot at the other end. Clean up all the long tails before moving on to step 2.
Step 2: Attach the Leaf

I always use my hot glue gun for this step because of how convenient it is. Start by gluing the middle of the leaf and attaching it to the tomato first. Then, glue half of each leaf so that the leaf still curls up naturally, mimicking a real tomato.
As for where to attach the leaf to the tomato, I like to use the back side. That way, I can cover up any flaws with the leaves and have the nice part presented at the front. That said, you can honestly pick any side you prefer!
