In this post, I am sharing with you the step-by-step crochet tutorial to make your very own crochet whale shark pouch. It is the typical drawstring pouch that you can use to store your earbuds and small items, and it fits perfectly into any handbag.

Materials Needed
- Cotton Crochet Yarn (color used: blue, white )
- Crochet Kit (3.0 mm Hook + Yarn Needle + Yarn Snips + Stitch Markers)
- Glue Gun
- Safety Eyes

Step-by-Step Instructions
I will be dividing this crochet drawstring bag tutorial into 4 sections.
1: Fins
To start, let us make the fins. You need to do 2 of them.
1: MR, 5 DC, SL ST
2: 2 CH, 5 FV, SL ST
Leave a long tail for sewing
2: Body
Next, let us move on to the body of the whale shark. This is also your pouch where you store your items.
1: 12 CH, go back 3 chains 9 DC, FW, 8 DC, FV, SL ST
2: 2 CH, FV, 8 DC, 3 FV, 8 DC, 2 FV, SL ST
3: 2 CH, DC, FV, 8 DC, 3 (DC, FV), 8 DC, 2 (DC, FV), SL ST
4 to 11: 2 CH, DC, SL ST
12: 2 CH, 8 (2 SC, 2 CH, K), 2 SC, SL ST
13: 2 CH, 34 DC, SL ST
14: 2 CH, 17 (DC, FV), SL ST
After that, cut the yarn and hide the excess on the inner side of the pouch.
3: String
For the strings, you need to do 2, one for each side. Depending on how long you want them, you can do 60 to 70 chains.
For the demo, I did 60 chains.
4: Putting It Together
Now that everything is ready, let us assemble the pouch.
Step 1: Attach the fins
Using the long tail left for the fins, use a yarn needle and sew the fins on each side of the pouch around the 7th row.
You can shift this as per your preference too.
Step 2: Add the drawstrings
Next, to add the drawstrings, work on one side before going to the other. What you want to do is use the yarn needle and go in and out at the 12th row of the body, where there are holes. Start sewing on one end, so you will end up on the same end. (Refer to the crochet tutorial to visualize this better.)
Once you have both ends on the same side, you can do a double knot at the end and cut off any excess yarn.
Do the same for the other side.
Step 3: Glue the eyes
Lastly, using a glue gun, glue the safety eyes on. Pick any size you prefer. It is all about making it your own.
Optional Touches
Here are some optional final touches that you may want to consider:
- You can sew patterns on the body
- Switch out the colors of the whale shark and the drawstring
- Make the pouch bigger by adding more stitches or rows
